To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Church welfare program, our ward is participating in a worldwide effort to follow the First Presidency's counsel to perform an act of service for the poor and needy. You can find more information about the event here.
Meanwhile, the service committee is asking that YOU help us come up with a way to follow the prophet:
"We want your ideas!!! Everybody has different interests and connections. We would love to have your input as we try to develop and carry out a service project for our ward. Please check out the link provided and leave a comment with ideas you might have!!! We are excited to organize this activity to not only bless those that we will serve but also increase our unity as a ward! :)"

August Book Drive
Listen up everyone! We only have SIX MORE DAYS until the end of the RS book drive!
This drive is a service activity through the organization Loving Through Literacy, which will help the books we donate find their way to a new children's library in Liberia, classrooms in Missouri, or the community library on the San Carlos Apache Reservation.
Donating your books is easy! Now through Monday, August 22, there will be a trailer with a book drop in the stake center parking lot. Wonderful Angie Johnson has also volunteered to take any books that you bring to church or FHE down to the trailer for y'all.
Here's the rundown on what to donate:
-Books that are in good condition, ie., pages and cover intact, no writing inside.
-No books requiring batteries.
-All types of textbooks and teaching materials accepted.
-Encyclopedia sets are are welcome, especially children’s.
-No magazines.
-CD’s and DVD’s may be donated. No VHS videos or scratched disks.
**Note: Eyeglasses of all types are also needed. Please do not put in book drop but give directly to a member of your RS Presidency or representative for this service activity.
For further information, go to this web site: http://lovingthroughliteracy. com/

Back-to-School Pep Talk
This talk by Russel M. Nelson was originally given during the October 1992 General Conference.
"Where Is Wisdom?"
Russell M. Nelson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Today I would like to pose a question asked long ago by Job: “Where shall wisdom be found?” (Job 28:12.)
Leaders of this Church have repeatedly emphasized the importance of education. It is a vital component of wisdom. Not long after the pioneers began construction of their temple in Illinois, they established the University of the City of Nauvoo. The First Presidency proclaimed that this university “will enable us to teach our children wisdom, to instruct them in all the knowledge and learning, in the arts, sciences, and learned professions.”
